Delete in the app
- Open Owl and go to Settings.
- Tap Privacy & data, then Delete your data.
- Choose what to delete: your whole family, or just your own account if you were invited to someone else's family.
- Confirm. We email you to say it's done.
Before you delete, you can download a copy of your family's information from the same screen (Download your data).
Delete without the app
If you've removed the app or can't get into it, email privacy@owlbell.com from the email address on your Owl account, with the subject “Delete my Owl account”. Tell us whether you want to delete the whole family or only your own account.
To protect your family, we'll send a one-time code to that address to confirm it's you. We act on confirmed requests promptly: within 45 days.
Smaller steps
- Remove a child and everything about them: Family, choose the child, Edit, Remove.
- Stop Kids mode on a child's device and delete what it collected: Family, choose the child, Privacy.
- Remove an adult from your family: Family, Adults & caregivers.
- Delete single items, such as documents, the care card, captured messages or Voice history, where they appear in the app.
What we delete and what we keep
When you delete a family, we delete all of its information within 30 days: accounts, children, plans, chores, documents, care cards, messages, Voice history, and anything collected in Kids mode. It drops out of our encrypted backups within a further 35 days.
We keep only the following, separately, and use them for nothing else:
| What we keep | Why | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription transaction records (no card details) | Tax and accounting law | 7 years |
| A record of your deletion request, and of any privacy requests or complaints | To show we handled them properly | 24 months |
| Sign-in and security records | Security and fraud prevention | 12 months |
If you were invited to someone else's family and delete only your own account, we delete your account details. Things you added to that family's shared plans stay with the family, because they belong to its plans.
Our Privacy policy has the full list of retention periods.
Your subscription
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Family Plus subscription, because Apple or Google bills it. Please cancel it in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings first, so you aren't charged again.
